People have so many ways to hide their age like going to plastic surgeons or visiting their cosmetologist every now and then or some people tend to be with c hildren to mask their age. Aging is a process of life that no one seems to be saved from. It is a developmental stage that we will all be dealing during our life. According to Erick Erickson’s eight stages of life, individuals need to accomplish a particular task before successfully completing the stage. (Potter and Perry, 2005) In Kuan’s theory of retirement and role discontinuities, she values the effect of retirement as a phase of one’s life and its accompanying adjustments. She identified the determinants of positive perceptions in retirement and positive reactions toward role discontinuities. Health status, income, work status, family constellation and self-preparation are identified. I think that the most determinant factor of which is the self-preparation considering that all the factors are also important. Self preparation is important especially in dealing with difficult life transitions. It is our way of preparing for the adjustments that we need to deal with in entering to a new stage of life. The major role of nurse in the retirement and role discontinuities among aging people is helping them to prepare themselves to cope or adapt.
